Attributing Images.

Lately in Te Ngahere we have been  learning about attributing images.

We had to learn how to  make sure we are allowed use images online.

I learnt how to make sure I am allowed use images online without paying a

lot of money or getting sued for using them.

To make sure we are allowed use images online  we have to push three

battens tools, usage rights and creative commons. After you pushed all those

things it will come up with the photos you are allowed to use.

I see myself in the future using this technique to make sure I dont get

sued for using other people images or have to pay to use them .

Do you know how to attribute images?

Phishing And Scamming Learning

In Te Ngahere we have been learning to identify phishing and scams online.  If you don't know what phishing and scamming is it is someone who is trying to phish for your personal information and scamming is when someone is trying to  scam you for your money  I learnt how to identify if a site is safe or not. If a site isn't secure  it will have a red line across the search bar. To keep yourself safe online make sure not to share personal information on any site.

Have you ever learnt about staying safe online?

Special Person Bio Poem

Today 30th of August Te Ngahere had to write a poem about one of  our family members I decided to write a poem about my mum. We had to follow the steps of this PDF. ( PDF )

At the start it was hard for me to write down what my mum inspires me to do it was also hard for me to write the end phrase.

I ended up skipping them and then I went back to them at the end.

What I found easy was answering what she likes and what she doesn't like also  4 words she says all the time.

Have you ever done a poem before?

Learning The 4 Different Shots

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about 4 different shots.   We are  doing this to help us when we do our proper Imovie. To make sure we understand each shot we had to create an Imovie that shows all of the shots we learnt. The shots we learnt were   establishing shot,  long shot, medium  shot and  close  up shot. Establishing shot is the shot that tells you  where the story will take place. The long shot  is the shot that tells you how many characters  are in the Imovie. The medium shot is the shot that shows more detail and the  close up shot is the shot that tells you what the characters are doing or what they can see. I think my groups plan went well. We could of wrote the words bigger on the close up shot at the end . I think this learning  will help me with my proper Imovie because I now know all of those shots and it will be easy for me when I start my Imovie.

Do know what another shot is called?

Sience Fair Reflection

In Te Ngahere we have been doing science fair. For my science fair project we were trying to find out which highlighter last the longest and to see if the cheapest highlighter last longer then the most expensive.

The things I learnt was about fair testing a science experiment, fair testing a science experiment is when you only changed one variable. I also learnt about a control variable,  dependant variable and a independent variable. I learnt that a control variable is the variables that doesn’t change, the dependant variable is a variable  you can use to measure something and a independent variables are the variables that change.

What I found hard was trying to find the topic at the start. Another thing I found hard about  my experiment was trying to figure out the best way to measure how long each brand of highlighter lasted.

We found  out if we had a wooden  meter ruler and a big piece of paper that was longer than a meter ruler we could rule meter  lines until all the ink runs out, Then we can count the lines at the end.

The ink was going onto the ruler so we thought next time we can change the meter ruler into a plastic ruler or a metel ruler. The highlighters we were testing  were  Stabilo Boss, Office Max and Bic Marking.

We found out that Stabilo Boss lasted the longest and Officemax and Bic Marking lasted the least.

The hoe I think I used the most was Kaha because when it was hard I didn’t give up and I kept going and I ended up finishing my science project.

Have you ever had a science fair?

Learning New Ways Of A Dot Plot

Kia Ora lately In Te Ngahere we have been learning to analyze and create a  dot plot. The reason why we did this was so it could help us with the graphing in our science fair.  I learnt how to create a dot plot in my book and how to analyze a dot plot.

We had to look at a dot plot that had the data of how far the kids in room 1 and 2 threw a tennis ball. Then we had to make statements about the tennis balls hoom 2 and Room 1 threw were clustered.

For example by looking at the dot plot from room 1 I could see that the majority of the class threw between 14 and 19 metres.

The next thing we did was create a dot plot using the data of room 2’s throws. Something I can tell from this dot plot is that more than half of the class threw the tennis ball 10m or more.  I was confused at first because it was new to me.  Also I was confused  how to share my learning using Google Slides. I used to think that a Dot Plot was like a graph and now I know that a Dot Plot and a Graph are different things.  What I think I could of done better in my DLO is explain the range better.

Most powerful Technology

Yesterday the 4th of May the year sevens and eights went to Morewa, technology. We had to travel on bus from Paihia School to Morewa School. Once we got there we had to separate in year groups because the year sevens had to go to the cooking class with Whaea Dot and the years eights went to woodwork with Mr E. Because I am a year seven I went to cooking class with Whaea Dot. We were making Pizza.(How we made it) We first started by grabbing a big bowl so we can put 2 tsp of sugar and 2 tsp of yeast. Next we put half a cup of warm water into the bowl. Then we had to let it set in the warming draw for 10 to 15 minutes. While we were waiting we had to put ½  cup flour into a utility plate also a big table spoon of milk powder and  ¼  tsp of salt. Next  we finished by putting all the ingredients into the utility plate. We had to grab the bowl out of the warming draw and put  all of those ingredients from the utility plate into the bowl that had the yeast in it then we  mixed  them together. Then we  rolled it into a circle. Also we had to cut up all of our ingredients witch was onion, bacon, cheese, Tomato Paste, Garlic salt and Garlic Once we were finished cutting up all of our ingredients we had to put it onto the pizza and put it in the oven. We had to put it in the oven for 20 minutes till it is cooked. The thing that was hard for me is when I had to cut up the onions because it was making me cry. The thing I think I can get better at next time is learn how to use the oven properly. Once it was out of the oven Mahana and I decided to give eachother a piece and they were both delicious.

 Have you made homemade pizza?

Kia Ora lately In Te Ngahere we have been learning to analyze and create a

Something I can tell from this dot plot is that more than half of the class threw the \

tennis ball 10m or more. I will  show room 1 and 2’s dot plot down bottom. When

we first started it was hard for me to understand the dot plot and observe the information

and insert it in a dot plot. What I found easy was understanding the numbers on the

Dot Plot.

Do you know anything about a Dot Plot

Scientific Method

Kia ora, lately In Te Ngahere we have been learning about the Scientific Method. The purpose of why we did this was so that it could help us with our science fair.

I learnt that the scientific method is a method that uses a hypothesis, questions and gathering information. We also made a infographic that showed the steps of the scientific method.

I will definitely use this in the future. I think it would help me with my science fair.

What I used to make my infographic is Easily. Easily is a site on Google that is used for a lot of different  things.

What I think I did well was making the infographic because I put the steps in order and it was easy.. What I think I could do better in the future is trying to put the infographic steps into my own words.

Have you made an infographic before?

The Best Marble Ramp

Kia Ora, bloggers In Te Ngahere we have been learning how to make a marble ramp. The purpose of why we did this was to make the marble roll down our ramp and try roll to 1100mm.

We started by finding a group of three or two. My group was Breeze, Gail and I. Next we started to make a plan for our marble ramp.

The materials we used to make our marble ramp was cardboard, a tube and a hot glue gun.

 How we made it:

We started by making a box out of our cardboard, next we used hot glue to stick our tupe to  the top of our box. If you wanted to know our tube was 60mm.

After we finished making our marble ramp we had to test it. We tested it using a measuring tape, after each roll we had to write what it rolled by on our planning.

Making  our planning specific for the teachers to understand was difficult  for me. What I found easy was collaborating with my group to find out how we were going to make our marble ramp.

Have you ever had to make a marble ramp?

A Fun Ride To Kawakawa

Kia Ora, lately in Te Ngahere we have been learning about the scientific method and how to create our own science projects. We went to Bay Of Islands College in Kawakawa to a science roadshow. We went there because we have a science show coming up and we needed to learn more about it.  We had three activities. Once we got there we had to sit down in the Bay Of Islands hall that a lot of experiments, well we were sitting down in the hall we had to listen to the first show. What I learnt in the first show was about different gases, for example, I learnt gases like Nitrogen Dioxide. I also learnt that carbon dioxide is heavy. The next thing we did was walk around and look at all the exhibits. The experiment that I really enjoyed was a tube that had air flowing through to the top we had three different materials to use to make them float straight up into the middle. The materials were a badminton ball, rubbery yellow tennis ball and a lot of pipe cleaners. We didn’t end up making it float in the middle but it was fun. The last activity was to listen to one more show. What I learnt in that show was that you can do science on anything. How I can use what I have learnt in my science project is by changing one variable at a time so I know what variable I changed to made it work.

Have you ever been to a science roadshow before?

The Most Fabulous Mosaic Art

Kia Ora, lately in Te Ngahere we have been doing Mahi Toi for our Mahi Toi we have been doing Mosaic art. We have been learning to create shapes to make it look like the image that we have chosen. The purpose of why we were doing this was so we can create a QR code to match our ngahere notes. If you don’t know what nghare notes is scroll down and you can see it in my post.

What we had to do first was chose a photo that matches our ngahere notes. I decided to do a photo of a Nikau Palm. Next we had to use polyline to create shapes on our image. Polyline is a tool on Google Drawing that you can use to make your own shapes and lines.  Once we finished filling in our image with shapes we had to delete our image and choose a background for the back of our art.

Matching my shapes to my Nikau Palm was hard for me. What I could do better is to stop rushing through my art.

Do you know what Mosaic art is ?

Cyber Smart

In Te Ngahere we have been learning to use tools and shapes to create sea creatures. We started to do this to learn about the tools on Google drawings.

rive tools. I think I could use this in the future for one of my maths DLO or one of my reading DLO. I started by using shapes to create a fish and a shark. I used shapes like squares, triangles, diamonds, half frames, circles, and lightning bolts. I also created a rock using curve line.

What I think I did well was using different shapes to make different sea creatures. I think I could get better at learning to use polyline properly.

Would you like to ask any questions?

Naghere Notes

In Te Ngahere we have been learning how to research different animals, insects and plants that live in our forest. First we chose either a plant, animal or insect. Then we researched about whatever we chose and using that information we made a video or a presentation. We had to research things like what the physical description of your plant or animal is. I chose to write about the Nikau Palms because our school has nikau palms and it is really nice to see.

This report was easy to write because our instructions were written clearly and I could understand it easily. Something I found simple was writing about the nikau diet because it was easy to figure out.

Have you ever been interested in any kind of Nikau Palm?

Learning The Ways Of Social Media

In Te Ngahere we have been learning to stay safe online. We did this to know what to do online and what not to do online.

We started by watching a video of a girl that had made a mistake of giving her private information to a random person. We then had to making a copy of a Google slide ( Slide Link ). ``We had to fill out the questions that were on each slide.

The questions were, what personal information did she share?, what was the main points in the video and what we could do to make our social media safe for us?

Learning to not share personal information online was hard for me.

What I found easy was to answer the questions. What made it easy was by watching the video because all the answers were in the video. But just not what we could do to make our social media safe for us? because we had those answers.

We also had to make a DLO of what we learnt.

My DLO will be down below

Have you ever sent any of your pirate information to someone you don’t know?

P.E Rotations

In Te Ngahere we started to do P.E rotations.  We are doing P.E rotations to help us with our kicking, passing, throwing  and catching. There were  four  P.E rotations netball, soccer, touch and a game that includes throwing kicking and catching. My first activity was touch. We were learning how to pass the ball around in a circle and group around the person that has the ball.  Once we finished practising we got separated into three groups and then we played each other. The first group we played we won

4 / Zero and the second group we played we one  3 / zero.  I really liked playing and learning these skills because I knew how to play and it was easy to teach the people that didnt know how to play to play. I was getting  frustrated and it got hard to focus.

Have you ever had to do P.E rotations?

Sharing my Learning of Place Value Decimals

In Te Ngahere we have been learning place value decimals. We started by learning the place value columns for decimals (eg 10ths and 100ths) Next we had to write a success criteria that we had to follow to answer 6 questions. We were also learning to ask quality questions too. One of the questions we didn't use the most was how did you get this answer? Because usually people tell you how they got their answer and we had to ask relatable  questions like why did you say that? and where did you get that number from? We did this to make sure we understood about what we were learning. What I found hard was understanding what column numbers are on the left and on the other side of the decimals. What I found easy was understanding the columns for the whole number.

Is putting decimal numbers into columns hard for you?

The Most Fabolous Direction Following.

On the 3rd of may, Te Ngahere  got given a paper that had instructions on it. We had to see how well we follow directions and instructions. The main thing about this was so we can get better at reading our success criteria.

When i read the 23rd question I realized that i didn’t read all of the directions properly because the directions said “ only do directions one and two “. I didn’t read through the instructions because I started answering them straight away.

Reading the instructions carefully was difficult for me and answering the instructions was easy for me.

Have you ever had a test, and had to follow the instructions?

Magnificent Te Reo Evidencing.

In Te Ngahere we have been learning to pronounce the alphabet, greetings and place names correctly in Maori. We went onto a site that was called Education Perfect. Once we went on the site I had to screencastify, myself saying the alphabet, greetings and place names in Maori. For each screencastify we did, we had to embed it on a google slide. I learnt how to pronounce the alphabet and greeting correctly in te reo Maori but what I think I can do better in the future is learn how to pronounce place names in te reo better.

Have you ever used the site Education Perfect?

Most Excellent Smart Surfing

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about Smart surfing.  We had got given

a slide that had questions on it. We had to take the keywords out of each of

our questions, So it comes up with more information.  like if we had typed

up on Google what do spiders eat,  it will come up with only a little bit of

information and that isn't relevant to your question.

If we take the key words which will be spiders and eat. We can change eat

to diet and type up spiders diet. If you write up just the specific part it will come up

with way more information about what you typed up. Google is like spiders

the spiders look through all of google's index and finds the words you typed up.

What I found hard was when I first started trying to make the question more

specific. When I got the hang it it was easier for me to Find the key words i

in the questions.

Have you ever used keywords in something you have typed up on google?

Sharing My Knowledge of Coastal Seas

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about Coastal Seas. We started off by

watching a full episode of Coastal Seas The video was about 49 minutes long.

While we were watching the video we had to write some facts down.

After we wrote all our facts we had to make a DLO. Here are some facts

that I learnt:

Did you know that 90 percent of fish live in coastal waters?

Did you know that some sharks perore to go hunting  in the dark because

they see better at night?

Also did you know that White tip sharks can fit into

thin coral places to get the fishes that like to hide from them?

Did you know that Stingrays hide in the sea grass when

searching for their prey.

Insanely Powerful Learning About Maths Stratigy

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about Maths Strategies.

3 days ago we were finding the best strategy for us. I think

the best maths strategy for me is algorithm because it  is easy

to use with adding and subtraction.

It also gives me the right answer. What was hard was using

algorithm with subtraction because it is hard when we have to

borrow numbers and add it back to the next number. What Ii

found easy was placing the numbers together.

Have you ever had to find the best strategy for you?

Sharing My Learning Using Equal Addition

In Te Ngahere for the past week we have been learning to evidence our Maths.

I had to explain my knowledge of Equal Additions. Equal Additions is good

strategy to use for subtraction. The thing I found easy in this is balancing the numbers out. What I found hard

was trying to explain how and what to do in each step.

Have you ever had to evidence you math work?

Insanely Powerful Learning About Team Building

In Te Ngahere we have been learning to communicate and collaborate between our learning members. Yesterday the 23rd of March we did a team building activity.  The activity was  when one person was the drawer and there were two others that will take turns running out. The two runners had to run outside and look at the teachers drawing and describe what the teachers drawing looked like to the drawer. The drawer wasn't allowed to go outside and have a look at the teachers photo. We have been doing Team Building Activities to see how well we work together.

Team building was known as Task Masters. We got the name from a

Tv show.

We were lucky to do the same activity twice.

The first time we did it I was one of the runners. When I was one of

the runners it was hard to explain where the drawings

were or what they look, like. it was easy for me not to touch the paper. With the second attempt I was the drawer and it was

hard to try understand what they meant because they kept

getting louder and louder and that made me frustrated.

What was easy was that I could kind of understand what they meant

when the gave me proper instructions and were yelling at me.

Have you ever done an activity to see how well you

work with you group members?

Insanely Powerful Learning About Food Webs

I

n Te Ngahere we have been learning about food webs. Food webs are a chain to show what animal eats what. We had to make a copy of this google drawing (
link) and use arrows to point from the animal that the predator eats or the way that the energy flows to.

Once we finished doing that we had to compare the difference between the teachers food web and our food web.

The difference between their food web and my food web was that their  food web had different colored arrows to show what each consumer eats. My arrows were only one color. Also their food web had more arrows pointing towards the stoat than mine. Mine  also has more arrows pointing towards the Kereru then the teachers.

Have you ever learnt about food webs before?

The Most Remarkable Ecosystem DLO

For the past two weeks In Te Ngahere we have been learning about the ecosystem and mutualistic relationships. We had to read these two articles ( LINK 1 LINK 2. ) We also had to fill out these  three columns. They were what we  already know, what we discovered and we know now. I made a DLO to teach you about how the ecosystem works. I discovered  that  if there were 1000 carnivores and only 100 herbivores then after the carnivores eat all 100 herbivores they will start eating eachother and they will eventually become extinct.

Have you ever made a DLO about the ecosystem?

The Most Alarming Tsunami Evacuation

On Friday
the 5th of March Paihia School evacuated up the tall hill because there

was going to be a tsunami. We didn't know what was happening until we started walking

up the hill. Once we were up there,  people were frustrated and sad because they didn't

know what could  happen to their families. I was confused because I didn't know what

was happening.  I thought it might had been it was a Tsunami.

Minutes after we got up the hill one of my family members came up to get me, my siblings

and two of my cousins. They took us to the Golf Course. Once we got out we started to

play tag and hide and seek. After a few hours the Fire Patrol and Countdown gave us some

hot dogs, breand water. We were so hot we started to wet each other and run around the golf course

but after a while we got told to get of the golf course cause some people were playing

golf. Have you ever had to evacuate because of a Tsunami?
